Still a Skeptic, But Sold: My Remote Work Reality Check

I’ll be honest – I’m still that person who believes in face-to-face meetings and the buzz of a busy office. Call me old-fashioned, but seeing my team in person a few times a week just feels right.

When we first tried hybrid work at InspHired, I was quietly counting down the days until everyone would realize that “real” work happens in the office. But here’s the thing: I was wrong. Not completely wrong (I still love our in-person days), but wrong enough to make me rethink everything.

Here’s what I’ve learned watching my team split their time: they’re getting more done. Yes, you read that right. The same people I thought needed a full-time office desk are crushing their targets with a mix of home and office time.

Working in Africa, we can’t ignore how the game has changed. Our candidates – especially the top ones – are picking flexibility over fancy office perks. And while I cherish our office days, I can’t argue with results.

Want to make hybrid work actually work? Here’s what matters:

  1. Get the Basics Right: Solid internet and backup power for home days are non-negotiable. (Though I still prefer our in-person conversations.)
  2. Write It Down: Clear rules about when to be in office and when to work remotely. Trust me, this helps – even for us old-school folks.
  3. Keep Everyone Connected: We maximize our office days for collaboration and save focused work for home.
  4. Trust Your Team: This was the hardest part for me. But watching outcomes rather than desk time? It works.

There are still days when I wish we were all together more often. But seeing our team thrive in this balanced approach? That’s worth challenging my own assumptions.

Ready to explore flexible work options? Even this skeptic can help. Find us at www.insphired.jobs

P.S. – Our most successful placements this year went to companies offering hybrid options. Sometimes the old dog has to learn new tricks.
